Telephones: Drivers Can’t Talk On Hand-Held Phones While Driving
Vehicle Code 12810.3
Effective July 1, 2008
This law makes it an infraction for drivers to talk on a hand-held phone while driving, unless the phone is being used to make an emergency call. Hands-free phones are permitted.
A violation of this law is an infraction with a fine of $20 for the first violation, and $50 for each subsequent violation. The driving records of violators will not be affected.
