Cell Phones: Customers can return cell phones to retailers for recycling (Public Resources Code 42490) Effective July 1, 2006 This law is called “The Cell Phone Recycling Act.” It requires retailers that sell cell phones to let customers return their used phones for recycling, reuse, or disposal. Action: DCA’s Consumer Services Unit takes complaints against retailers that refuse to take cell phones for recycling. May be reprinted for non-commercial use if a credit line is included acknowledging the County of Los Angeles Department of Consumer Affairs.
